I have met that problem in the latest developer version(version 8, 02.02.2019) of the UNITE database rather than the formal version. I cannot figure this problem out using awk or sed so it may be a new problem.
I also used version 8 dev and it worked with the single sed command.
Can you figure out which char is the problem? Linenumber or anything of an error message?
