two different AVS/OTU classifed to the same taxa

Hi,

I have a hypothetical question:
Is it possible that lest’s say OTU_1 and OTU_2000 will be classified/assigned to the same sequence in the reference sequence? If yes, how Qiime2 is handling such situation? Is the output merged automatically or it’s merged only after qiime taxa collapse?

I didn’t detect such situation yet (I’m now with Qiime2) however I guess it’s possible, no?

Yes!

So you will have numerous ASVs assigned to the same taxa but they will be treated as separate ASVs anyway, until you collapse your table.
