Recently i came across to a question,
Do we need to do normality tests of bacteria/pathways (relative abundance)?
if yes/no why?
My apologies for asking not qiime related question here, thought this is the best place to get an answer from experts.

If you are planning to perform any statistical tests that assume the normal distribution of data (like ANOVA) than you need to check if your data actually have the normal distribution.
