Alpha rarefaction x axis

Dear all,

I´m just a bit confused between the two alpha rarefaction curves below if these two are both the same with regards to the x-axis. Does sequencing depth = sequences per sample? And how come when you generate the result in qiime, the x-axis always show the sampling depth, is it possible to put the sequences per sample instead?

Here, sampling depth is the same as sequences per sample, so the x-axes are the same between the two graphs.
