Members of the QIIME 2 team will teach a three-day hands-on workshop on bioinformatics tools for microbial ecology. The workshop will include lectures covering basic QIIME 2 usage and theory, and hands-on work with QIIME 2 to perform microbiome analysis from raw sequence data through publication-quality statistics and visualizations. This workshop will also feature several opportunities for attendees to network with other researchers in the field, as well as with QIIME 2 "experts".
A poster session will be held on the second day of the workshop — attendees are encouraged to showcase their research here. Don’t have a study to show? Feel free to use this opportunity to pitch your project to your peers and solicit feedback. Not using QIIME 2 in your study? No worries, we won’t judge you! Day three of the workshop will include parallel sessions where students can choose to work with instructors to install QIIME 2 on their computers, begin analysis of their own data in QIIME 2, learn about developing QIIME 2 plugins, or cover one of several other contemporary topics in microbiome bioinformatics. This workshop will provide you with the foundation needed to begin using these tools to advance your own microbiome research projects.
Registration is open now — act now to secure a seat at the early-bird rate. Late registration will begin on May 4th, 2019.
Looks great! thanks for sharing…
Do you have any further information (program, what does the registration fee includes and if any tuition scholarships may be available).
Best!
All information is available at the link above. The schedule is not yet finalized, but will consist of three 8-hour days of instruction.
Day 1: QIIME 2 basic workflows and usage, core concepts.
Day 2: QIIME 2 advanced usage, plugins. Plus a poster session so that attendees can share their research and network.
Day 3: Hands-on training/troubleshooting with QIIME 2, plus group discussion sections.
Three days of intensive training in QIIME 2. Lunch, coffee, and snacks are provided. Travel, accommodation, and other meals are NOT included.
Thanks @scunnin4 — this workshop will not be recorded or offer a virtual presence option. We have discussed doing a distance-delivery workshop some time, sounds like that might be something you are interested in. If we decide to go that route some day there will be an announcement here, and one at workshops.qiime2.org. Thanks!
It sounds great!! It would be very helpful for me if I could have some kind of official program. Could it be possible for you to publish it on the website?
Hi,
-Is it essential a participant to being his own laptop? Or the venue provides the computers for people?
-How many hours are devoted to each day of the workshop?
-Does the workshop cover the whole of Qiime2 potential abilities, such as metagenomics, metabolomics, metatranscriptomics and so forth on?
-The currency of registration is for USD. What is your suggestion for who are living in the Europe to pay in dollar, while the European countries are mostly using and paying by Euro?
Thanks
These will be full "work-day" session, approximately 8a to 5p with lunch and coffee breaks.
No, please see the workshop description page for a sample of the planned topics.
The payment provider accepts payments from credit cards and bank transfers --- both of these services usually support inline currency exchange. If you are interested in attending and having a hard time providing payment, please contact us and we can help.
Thank you for the quick reply!
A small question! Will the the workshop be processed on a virtual box or on a natively-installed Qiime2 interface?
Thanks
Hi Dear,
Thank you very much for sharing this information and it seems like a great opportunity.!
I am wondering that if someone has Windows OS in the laptop and currently use virtual box for QIIME2, will there be a problem to follow-up the workshop? Thanks.!
Hi @mneranjan31 - no - attendees will not need to install QIIME 2 on their laptop to participate. Any laptop with Chrome or Firefox web browser is enough.
