core features interpretation

Hi guys,

I am sorry if this is a repeated question but I couldn't find the answer anywhere.

So, I want to find out which are the core features of my dataset, at phylum and at family level. Its mostly for taxa bar plots visualization. Instead of showing the 10 or 20 most abundant I just want to show the core taxa.

I have no problems at phylum level, but I am struggling with the interpretation at family level. Results are as follows:

Feature ID
d__Eukaryota;p__Basidiomycota;c__Exobasidiomycetes;o__;f__
d__Eukaryota;p__Ascomycota;c__Dothideomycetes;o__Capnodiales;f__
d__Eukaryota;p__Ascomycota;c__Dothideomycetes;o__Capnodiales;__
d__Eukaryota;p__Ascomycota;c__Dothideomycetes;o__Capnodiales;f__Cladosporiaceae
d__Eukaryota;p__Ascomycota;;;__
d__Eukaryota;p__Phragmoplastophyta;c__;o__;f__

Should the interpretation be that core taxa could not be identified at family level (apart from Cladosporiaceae) but:

  1. Identified 1 unassigned family of the class Exobasidiomycetes
  2. Identified 2 unassigned families of the order Capnodiales
  3. Identified Cladosporiaceae family
    etc..

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kind regards,
Hugo
