ANCOM vs pairwise-differences plug in

What’s the difference between the functions ANCOM and longitudinal pairwise-differences plugin? Can they both be used to determine different features between two sample groups?

Hi there @ninaxhua!

ANCOM is a test for differential abundance of features across samples (or metadata columns). Check out this blog post for a nice description of the method.

The pairwise-differences action tests if a metric (e.g. metadata column; alpha diversity) changes significantly between pairs of samples (for example, pre and post treatment groups). Check out this tutorial for more details.

Hope that helps! :t_rex: :qiime2:
