What artifacts means in QIIME2

Hi，
I am qiime user two years ago, and I am new for QIIME2. When I read the documents for QIIME2. I keep seeing the word artifacts, what it actually means in the context?

Welcome! See here for a description of artifacts. Think of these as artifacts in the archaeological sense, not in the biological sense.

To give an over-simplistic definition, a QIIME 2 artifact is a file containing any type of data.

I hope that helps clarify this concept!
