More OTU counts than number of starting reads?

Hello,
Is it possible that the same reads can be assigned to different OTU’s?
I have an OTU table resulting with more total counts across the entire table (across samples, i.e. columns and OTUs i.e. rows) than my starting number of total reads.

Can someone clarify this?

that does not sound normal — could you please post the outputs of demux summarize and feature-table summarize?
