I have installed QIIME and I am going over ''454 Overview Tutorial: de novo OTU picking and diversity analyses using 454 data'' trying to apply each step using data provided in the QIIME website.
I have encountered an error trying to perform ''De novo OTU picking'' section of the tutorial using pick_de_novo_otus.py. I also looked at my directory and I noticed that the file containing Taxonomic Assignment has not been created.

That tutorial is pretty old (as it still uses Qiime 1, which we don't officially support anymore.)
You can use Qiime 1, if you want, but if you are getting started for the first time, I would suggest using Qiime 2. It's faster , supports cutting-edge methods , and is easier to use (in my opinion).
(I'm willing to answer questions about Qiime 1, but this forum focuses on supporting the newest version of Qiime, which is part of the reason I'm suggesting the upgrade!)
